CommVault Comprehensive Backup

A comprehensive cloud backup solution that allows you to back up entire virtual server images, individual files and application data.

Basic description of the service

The service enables you to back up entire virtual server images, individual files from virtual or physical servers, and data directly from applications such as MS SQL, Exchange, Sharepoint, Active Directory, Oracle, SAP, DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.

The service handles backups within the provider's data centres as well as backups from external customer sites. The service also complies with the 3-2-1 backup rule, i.e. you can have 3 copies of data stored on 2 different media within the service and have 1 backup located at a different site. The entire backup process is managed by the provider, based on information and cooperation from the customer. The service is charged according to the type of backup (virtual server, file and application) and the volume of data backed up.

Standard backup plan
  • 1× daily incremental deposit
  • 1× weekly full deposit
  • retention of backups for a 1 month period
The standard backup window is between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. Primary backups are located in the home data centre; any secondary backups are located in another data centre of the provider.

Restore backups

If backups need to be restored, the customer is entitled to 2 free restores per month for each type of backup ordered. If the customer exhausts the free backup restores, they will be further billed for the work of the technical specialist according to the reported work for every 15 minutes commenced.
If the customer wants to do the backup restores themselves, they have the option to order this option from the provider and handle the backup restores according to their needs, subject to the following conditions:
  • can be applied only to agent backups (file and application) over a customer-managed environment,
  • the customer is responsible for the risks associated with the recovery (application malfunction, overwritten system files, etc.),
  • the customer is familiar with the CommVault environment, in case of unfamiliarity he has the possibility of paid training (approx. 4 hours),
  • the customer must not restore backups at a time when scheduled downtimes are announced,
  • the customer must inform the provider immediately if the backup restoration overwrites system or configuration files and results in an interruption of regular backups
Once the conditions are met, the provider will provide the customer with access to the CommVault online administration console and a basic manual specific to the provider's environment.

Backup site types

Backup within the data centre
This is the backup of data located in the provider's data centre to physically separate devices in the same data centre and with possible replication to a second data centre.

Backup into the data centre
Data from the customer's infrastructure is backed up to the provider's data centre. The customer has access to backup management, definition and recovery management via a self-service portal.

Backup at the customer's site
This is a comprehensive provision of data backup at the customer's site. As part of the service, the customer will lease the necessary backup servers, software and licenses. After training, the backup is then entirely in the customer's control.

  • 24/7 operation and management of the CommVault backup platform and HW resources required to ensure the service runs at the required quality,
  • Providing the necessary backup storage capacity,
  • Creating and setting up a backup plan.
  • Management, monitoring and logging of user access to shared components of the backup solution,
  • 24/7 service monitoring and supervision during backup jobs.
Responsibilities of the customer
  • Definition of initial requirements for the backup plan,
  • Necessary interaction with the installation and integration of the backup agent into the customer's environment, followed by the operation of the agent,
  • Informing about changes in the backup environment that have an impact on the backups.

The service is charged according to the type of backup (virtual server, file and application) and the actual volume of backed up data.
